Riegersburg Castle

Riegersburg Castle is another medieval castle, except this one was built on a dormant volcano. The peak is 482 meters above sea level. The basalt of the hill it sits on was used to built it as well. It was finished sometime in the mid 16th century and has 2 miles of walls, 5 gates and 108 rooms. A town by itself.

  1. I'd love to live in a castle. I'd make it all modern and cosy on the inside. A couple of painting here and there and a posh sound system. A great opportunity to start a busines too. Think of all the movie stars that will want to stay at your castle. Ching ching! ;)

  8. What did they know then about volcanoes? It seemed like a great spot, good vantage point, etc. Huge place.

  10. I'm with Terry! I don't care if it was dormant, you wouldn't see me building anything so elaborate on top of a volcano!
